The TEMS database provides in-situ observation data which can be used as ground truth in the production and validation of global land cover products. TEMS’ objective is to register terrestrial sites (T.Sites) and relevant networks that carry out long-term terrestrial monitoring and research activities that are useful to the scientific and policy making community. Purposes are (a) development of modelling, assessment and research programmes; (b) Assessment of the gaps in geographic coverage of key variables; (c) Linkage of ground and satellite observations; (d) Evaluation of the quality of data and measurement methods; and (e) Identification of T.Sites that need upgrading. T.Site data can be retrieved depending on the data access policy of the T.Site: Open (access for any user without constraint); Limited (users needs to register and/or have partial access to data; Controlled (users need a login/password).
